Welcome Back! We are planning on moving forward with Pre-K through 12th grade religious education, youth ministry and sacramental preparation for the 2020-2021 year, with adaptations due to our COVID-19 restrictions. Please see below for program information and check back frequently for updates. The summer has been spent planning for this coming year so that we achieve the following goals:
Hand on our Catholic faith to your children and young people, thereby allowing for them to foster a life-long relationship with Jesus Christ through the Church.
Minimize the health risk due to the current COVID-19 health situation.
Our plan for the year is one that we feel confident in achieving these two elements, and we enter into it with plans for flexibility and the ability to adapt as needed. REGISTRATION FOR 2020-2021 is currently open!We highly encourage everyone to register online, and to do so as soon as possible, so that we can plan and prepare. If you have a child or youth preparing for sacraments, we ask that you register by September 7 at the very latest--but the earlier the better. If online registration is absolutely not possible for you, please let Kimberly Chapman know and we can work out an alternative.
Below is an overview of our plan for the coming year. Please contact Kimberly Chapman if you have any questions! Registration: Registration is currently available. This will include all grades and sacramental preparation. Our registration/materials fees have been adjusted for the year to $25 per participant for RE/YM/First Sacraments. Confirmation preparation will continue to be $40 in order to cover the retreat fee. Registration fees are not due at the time of registration.
Sacramental preparation notes--per Diocesan preparation guidelines, First Sacraments are prepared for and celebrated when the child is in at least 2nd grade. The child must participate in sacramental preparation in their home parish along with either the parish religious education program, or attendance at Catholic school. Confirmation is prepared for when youth are in at least 10th grade. Youth must participate in confirmation preparation in their home parish along with either the parish youth program, or current attendance at a Catholic high school.
Pre-K through 5th Grade will be utilizing Pflaum Gospel Weeklies. This program will be more manageable for parents and connects the weekly lessons to the Sunday Mass. CLICK HERE for an info sheet on the curriculum.
6-12th Grade will be utilizing Lifeteen materials.
Sacramental Preparation will utilize Pflaum sacrament materials for all levels.
All program materials are available in a bilingual format, which you will indicate in registration.
Program Format:
For the fall, Pre-K (our program is now open to preschool) through 5th grades will still do family catechesis, and will meet virtually for small group prayer and activities, in addition to drive-thru pick up events (outlined below)
6th-12th grades will participate in drive-thru pick up events for all of their consumable materials, with virtual meetings for formation and the potential for small group socially-distanced on site events once we can begin having those. Once our program returns to "normal" for 6-12th grade, it will begin to gather 12:30-1:30pm at Saint Joseph Cordier Hall on Sundays with additional activities at individual parishes offered.
Sacramental preparation format will be determined once we see what registration looks like, as well as what our current health guidance is.
TIMELINE: Our formation year will kick off on September 20 with a drive-thru materials event for all programs. Pick ups will take place approximately every 2 months. We will reevaluate program format at winter break time. Drive-Through Pick Up Event: The most boiled-down version is that families will come to the drive-thru events and pick up their materials, as well as go through 3 other "stations" in the parking lot. Specifics for our first event are as follows: PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW TO ATTEND
Date-September 20, 2020
Time--1-3pm (may be adjusted based on registration, will also be subdivided based on registrations per parish)
